How do I stop my yarn winding as I knit?

Just beginning knitting, using knit stitch. Yarn keeps winding as I knit. Constantly trying to unwind it. The loop around right needle before pulling off of left needle causes the yarn to wind up and after a few rows, the yarn from skein to piece I am knitting is wound up. Any help?
