How to Knit Dishcloths
Do people really knit dishcloths? Well, the short answer is yes. When I first heard about people knitting dishcloths, I thought it was a bit of a joke. However, I soon discovered that it is quite a tradition and a sensible one too! Making your own dishcloth can be fun and it also saves you money. I have heard that knitted dishcloths last longer than shop bought cloths but I have not put mine to the test yet. Knitting dishcloths is a great project for beginners because they are easy to make and quick to finish. Also, the gauge is not important. Here is an easy pattern for you to try out:
For dishcloths you can use any yarn you fancy. Most people choose acrylic or cotton (worsted weight). You can even buy special dishcloth yarn with antibacterial qualities!Skill Level Easy / Beginner Materials 1 ball dishcloth yarn (or equivalent)1 pair 4.5mm (US Size 7) straight needles Instructions
Cast on
4 stitches 1st Row:
knit
to end 2nd Row: K2, yarn over, K to end
Repeat 2nd row until you have 45 stitches 3rd Row: K1, K2tog, yo, K2tog, K to end Repeat 3rd row until 4 stitches remain on your needle 4th Row: K to end
Bind off
To make up, just weave in ends. Well done - now you can start cleaning your kitchen!
