Knitting Instructions

This section on basic knitting instructions is where you will find out all about the nuts and bolts of knitting.

There are only two stitches you really need to know:

How to Knit
How to Purl

Once you have learned the knit and purl stitches then you will soon be able to produce your first garment!

But, first things first. You can't start knitting unless you know a few other simple steps.

How to make a Slip Knot
How to Cast On
How to Hold Your Knitting Needles and Yarn

Finally, you will need to learn

How to Bind Off

Once you are confident with these basic knitting techniques, you might also want to learn

How to Increase Stitches
How to Decrease Stitches

When you have finished the knitting stage of your garment, you will need to know how to make it up. You will need to know

How to weave in ends
How to sew seams

From experience, I have found that the best way to learn something new is for someone to show you. Soon, I hope to create a series of knitting videos.

In the meantime, I have written detailed explanatory notes that break down each task into separate stages. A close-up photograph illustrates each stage of the notes. This allows you to take as much time as you need to work out how to progress.

Armed with these tools you will soon be ready to begin knitting. At the end of the day, you just need to start! You are only going to learn how to knit by doing it.
