making a knitting dolly

by Caitlin
(Sydney, NSW, Australia)

If you can't find a knitting dolly of you just don't want to buy one, you can make your own. It is very simple.
You will need an empty toilet paper roll and 4 paddle pop sticks. Just glue and tape (for extra support) the paddle pop sticks evenly around the inside of the roll. There you have it!

smartie tube knitting dolly
by: Anonymous

Another idea for making a knitting dolly is to use a smartie tube and some paper clips. First of all eat the smarties! then bend each paper clip slightly so that it will lean back when taped round the top edge of the smartie tube. You can stick on 4 or 6 paper clips and then you are ready to start knitting.

Wooden Dolly's
by: Richard

I REALLY don't believe ANYONE could worry about how safe four little nails in a cotton reel could be!!!!!!

I started using a hammer and nails when I TWO years old AND I'm still going strong at 76 and today I am going to make one for my grandaughter by turning a wooden replica of a wooden cotton reel (They're all plastic rubbish now!) and hammering 4 panel pins.

WOW I must cehck my insurance!!!!

I never would have thought of doing that!

That is such a great suggestion for little ones and affordable too.

Another method is to use an old cotton reel and hammer four nails into the top. I am not sure how safe this would be so if you try this, do it with caution!
